The first specimen was lot 40565 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $2,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1766-EDC. NGC MS-64. Friedrich August III (1763-1827). Nice strike, lustrous and very attractive. Demarete Collection." The second specimen was lot 2820 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted,

"Sachsen, Kurfürstentum, Xaver, 1763-1768 Konventionstaler 1766. Dresden. Vorzüglich-FDC (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Xavier, 1763-68, convention thaler of 1766, Dresden mint. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The third specimen was lot 135 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,057 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[3] noted, "German States - Thaler or Konventionstaler 1766, Silver, XAVER REGENT 1763-1768, SACHSEN Cuirassed bust right. Rev. crowned arms. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS AU58." Most Saxon thalers of the period 1660-1760 are scarce. The elector Friedrich August II's attempt to conquer and rule Poland as well as Saxony impoverished both countries. After a brief reign of Friedrich Christian, Friedrich August III ascended to the electorate under the regency of Xavier (1763-68). This type is listed in the SCWC for 1764-68 but Dav-2682 is more common for 1766.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.06 g, 0.833 fine silver, the second specimen 27.94 g.
