Saxony 1670-CR 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 4366 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabruck, March 2024), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,099 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Johann Georg II. 1656-1680. 1/2 Wechseltaler 1670, Dresden. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, winz. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön +. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George II, 1656-80, half "exchange" thaler of 1670, Dresden mint. Extremely rare, handsome patina, minor planchet defects, very fine or better.)"
This rare type was struck 1670 only and accompanied a quarter thaler (KM 449.1) and a single thaler (Dav-7625).
