This specimen was lot 40556 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,552. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1671. NGC AU-55. Johann Georg II (1656-80). Struck for the award of the Order of the Garter and the celebration of the feast of St. George. Toned. Demarete Collection." Other thalers exist for 1671 (Dav-7625, Dav-7621, Dav-7624). This type was issued again in 1678; both dates are scarce to rare.
