This specimen was lot 29879 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Saxe-New Gotha. Ernst the Pious Taler 1671-ABK XF45 PCGS. A massive crown featuring the baptism of the Prince Friedrich's daughter and an eleven-line inscription. Notable as the plate coin in the Davenport reference, this highly illustrative example presents even wear commensurate with the grade and highly-attractive cabinet patina. A most appealing example of this one-year type listed in the SCWC with a price of $1,800 in an XF grade designation." A marriage thaler (Dav-7451) is also recorded for 1671.
