This specimen was lot 50450 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $852. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. Taler, 1678. NGC AU Details--Obverse Scratched. Johann Georg II (1656-80). A couple of small scratches. Toned." Other thalers exist for 1678 (Dav-7626, Dav-7627, Dav-7636). This type was issued previously in 1671; both dates are scarce to rare.
