Künker Auction 441, lot 4446

This specimen was lot 4446 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €240 (about US$330 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Johann Georg II., 1656-1680. 1/3 Taler zu 8 Groschen 1669, Leipzig, für die Markgrafschaft Meißen. R Kl. Randfehler und Kratzer, sonst sehr schön +. (electorate of Saxony, John George II, 1656-80, one-third thaler or eight groschen of 1669, Leipzig mint, struck for Meissen. Rare, minor edge defects and scratches, otherwise very fine or better.)"

This type was struck at Leipzig 1669 only and is rare. We also note a 1669 gulden from the same mint (KM 526). The Dresden mint struck a one-third thaler of conventional design (KM 522).
