This specimen was lot 55783 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 1/2 Taler, 1617. Johann Georg I. NGC EF-45. From the Augustana Collection." This half thaler was struck on quarter thaler dies, meaning it is twice as thick. This half thaler was issued as part of a series commemorating the centennial of the Reformation which included coins ranging from one-eighth thaler to quadruple ducat. Other half thalers for 1617 include KM 100, KM 102 (the regular issue), KM 97 and KM 99.
