Saxony 1615 1/2 thaler KM-53
This specimen was lot 4268 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,000 (about US$1,309 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM. Johann Georg I. und August, 1611-1615. 1/2 Reichstaler 1615, Dresden. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Feine Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, John George I and August, 1611-15, half thaler of 1615, Dresden mint. Scarce in this condition, fine patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
Other half thalers struck in 1615 include KM 79 (thick version struck with quarter thaler dies), KM 80 (commemorative of the death of August II) and KM 81 (elector Johann Georg alone). This type, struck 1612-16, is the most common.
