Saxony 1615 2 thaler Dav-7572
This specimen was lot 4418 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,614 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Johann Georg I. und August, 1611-1615. Dicker doppelter Reichstaler 1615, Dresden. R Sehr schön. Exemplar der Lagerliste Udo Gans, Arnsberg, November 2001, Nr. 208. (electorate of Saxony, John George and August, 1611-15, double thaler of 1615, Dresden mint. Rare, very fine.)"
This type was struck 1611-15 on single thaler dies (Dav-7573). The dies were also used to strike quadruple thalers (Dav-7570).
