Saxony 1614 thaler
This specimen was lot 5391 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,910 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Johann Georg I. und August, 1611-1615. Dickabschlag von den Stempeln des 1/4 Reichstaler im Gewicht eines Reichstalers 1614, Dresden. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung "Cygnus in Nummis". Exemplar der Slg. Dr. Karl Friederich, Auktion Adolph Hess Nachf. 149, Frankfurt/Main 1914, Nr. 950 und der Auktion Slg. Virgil M. Brand, Teil 5, Auktion Leu 70, Zürich 1997, Nr. 7304. (electorate of Saxony, John George I and August, 1611-15, thaler struck with quarter thaler dies of 1614, Dresden mint. Extremely rare, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"
This thaler is not mentioned in Davenport, the SCWC or Schnee. We presume it is rare.
