Künker Auction 441, lot 4419

This specimen was lot 4419 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,302 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM Johann Georg I., 1615-1656. Dicker doppelter Reichstaler 1617, Dresden, auf die 100-Jahrfeier der Reformation. Ohne Münzzeichen auf der Vorderseite. R Sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion UBS 85, Zürich 2010, Nr. 412. (electorate of Saxony, John George I, 1615-56, double thaler of 1617, Dresden mint, on the centennial of the Reformation, without mintmark on the obverse. Rare, very fine.)"

The image in the SCWC shows a swan mintmark on the obverse next to the date which is missing on this specimen. This type was issued 1617 only, accompanied by a single thaler (Dav-7595), triple thaler (Dav-7593), quadruple thaler (Dav-7592), single ducat (Fr-2663), double ducat (Fr-2662) and quadruple ducat (Fr-2661).
