This specimen was lot 212 in Künker sale 400 (Berlin, February 2024), where it sold for €14,000 (about US$18,162 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM, Johann Georg I. 1615-1656. Dicker vierfacher Reichstaler 1617, Dresden, auf die 100-Jahrfeier der Reformation. Hüftbild r. in Kurornat mit erhobenem Schwert in der Rechten, davor vierfeldiges Wappen mit Mittelschild//Hüftbild Friedrichs III. r. in Kurornat mit erhobenem Schwert in der Rechten, davor zweifeldiger Wappenschild. Von größter Seltenheit. Patina, min. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön. Exemplar der westfälischen Privatsammlung „Mehrfachportraits auf Münzen und Medaillen". Exemplar der Auktion Frankfurter Münzhandlung 107, Frankfurt 1963, Nr. 1479. The centennial of the Protestant Reformation inspired the elector to issue a long series of commemoratives ranging from one-eigth thaler to five ducats.
