This specimen was lot 73093 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $10,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Poltina, 1853-CNB HI. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. PCGS MS-63 Prooflike Gold Shield. Pop: 1, none graded finer by PCGS in Prooflike. Nearly all blazing white with highly reflective surfaces. Blue toning near the top only adds to the attractiveness of this example." Assayer initials HI stand for Nicolai Iossa. This type was struck 1832-58 and is not rare altho choice specimens are always expensive.
