Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75423

This specimen was lot 75423 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1853-EM. Ekaterinburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-62 Brown. Deep brown in hue, this Mint State example offers intense brilliance emanating from the fields as well." This type was struck at Ekaterinburg (shown here) and Warsaw 1850-55. The Warsaw issues are considerably scarcer than the Ekaterinburg product. The Ekaterinburg mint closed in 1876.
