This specimen was lot 52560 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1853-CNB HI. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-61. Variety with narrow denomination. Mostly deep gray in color, this Mint State specimen offers some lighter gray hues upon the devices, with fields and peripheries that grow increasingly more darkly toned." This type was struck 1832-58 in large quantities but is today very rare in nice condition.
