Sincona sale 78, lot 503

This specimen was lot 503 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Nicholas I. 1825-1855, Rouble 1852, St. Petersburg Mint, NI. Dav-283. Very rare in this condition. 4 roubles according to Petrov. Uncirculated. Small old ink marks." This type was struck 1832-58 in large quantities but is today very rare in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 2,560,000 (both assayers PA and NI).

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver. This specimen is 20.69 g.
