This specimen was lot 72637 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 25 Kopeks, 1852-CNB NA. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-66. The single finest certified of the date on the NGC population report by two full grade points, none finer. An outstanding representative of the type boasting a strong strike with needle sharp frosty details blazing cartwheel luster and hint of tone. This fantastic example is destined for a fine cabinet of a discerning collector." This type is listed for 1832-58 and was emitted in substantial quantities at St. Petersburg and Warsaw. This date is common. The assayer is Paul Alexiev; assayer Nicolai Iossa is also reported for this date.
