Russia 1852-EM 1/2 kopek
The first specimen was lot 23184 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $616.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 1/2 Kopek, 1852-EM. NGC MS-64 BN. Sharply struck with glossy brown surfaces. Exceptional quality and quite attractive." The second specimen was lot 398 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$216 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Denezhka 1852, Ekaterinburg Mint, EM. NGC MS62 BN."
This denezhka or half kopek was issued 1850-55 from Ekaterinburg (EM, shown here) and Warsaw (BM). The denomination was reduced to 1.6 g in 1894.
