Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 32688

This specimen was lot 32688 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1830-EM NK. Ekaterinburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-64 Brown. A charming near-Gem specimen, this wonderful Kopek delivers enticing details, with a sharp strike and essentially no faults of mention." This type was struck in large quantities 1811-15, 1818-30 at Ekaterinburg. The Kolyvan and St. Petersburg mints also contributed. The 1830-EM ФХ kopek we show on this site is a pattern or novodel. This example realized five times the catalog value.
