Stack's Bowers November 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 78381

This specimen was lot 78381 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1756-MMA. Moscow (Red) Mint. Elizabeth. PCGS VF-25. From the Richard August Collection." This type was struck 1755-57 at Moscow (shown here), St. Petersburg and Ekaterinburg. The weight was reduced to 4 g in 1757 (KM C6.1) then raised to 10.24 g in 1763. Many edge varieties exist but don't show in the images on display here.

Recorded mintage: 33,090,000.
