Russia 1755-SP kopek
This specimen was lot 32121 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $4,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia. Elizabeth Kopeck 1755-СПБ MS63 Brown PCGS, St. Petersburg mint, Edge 5. This superb example is struck with medal rotation and is possibly a special striking. Obv. Crowned eagle in the clouds holding plaque with value and date below. Rev. Crowned eagle in the clouds holding plaque with monogram and СПБ below. An extremely rare example in this choice condition. This is the finest piece certified by either PCGS or NGC." This type was struck 1755-57 at Moscow, St. Petersburg (shown here) and Ekaterinburg. The weight was reduced to 4 g in 1757 then raised to 10.24 g in 1763.
