Sincona sale 78, lot 245

This specimen was lot 245 in Sincona sale 78 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,438 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Elizabeth, 1741-1761, Kopeck 1755, Ekaterinburg Mint. Edge inscription. 0.75 rouble according to Petrov. 1 rouble according to Ilyin. Very fine-extremely fine." This type struck 1755-57 at Ekaterinburg (shown here), St. Petersburg and Moscow has the mintmark on the edge, a practice that was abandoned after this issue. The weight was reduced to 4 g in 1757 then raised to 10.24 g in 1763.
