Russia SB819-21624r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21624 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 2 Rubles, 1756-CNB. St. Petersburg Mint. Elizabeth. PCGS AU-58 Gold Shield. Stops on either side of date. Mintage of only 8,712 pieces. A nicely struck example with lustrous flashy fields. Just enough wear and disturbances in the fields prevent this lovely example from gaining a mint state grade. Slight weakness on the shield on the reverse, lustrous and quite attractive." This type was struck 1756-58 at St. Petersburg and Moscow, with and without mintmark. This issue with a mintmark obtains a slight premium.

Recorded mintage: 8,712.

Specification: 3.24 g, 0.917 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-115; C-23.2; Bit-94; Dia-384.
