Goldberg sale 75, lot 3824

This specimen was lot 3824 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $2,415. The catalog description[1] noted, "Russia. Rouble, 1756. Elizabeth. Bust right. Reverse: Eagle. Natural flan flaw on obverse. Lustrous. NGC graded MS-61." This gold ruble was issued 1756-58 and does not seem to have been a success, as the denomination was not issued again in gold until 1779. It was accompanied by a gold half (Fr-118) and two rubles (Fr-115).

Recorded mintage: 36,000.

Specification: 1.62 grams, 0.917 fine gold.
