Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24507
SB121-24507r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24507 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $750. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Ruble, 1756-CNB RI. St. Petersburg Mint. Elizabeth. PCGS EF-40 Gold Shield. An evenly worn and problem-free Ruble with light gray toning throughout. A wholesome and desirable coin for the grade." Collecting Russian coins is made more confusing by the plethora of competing catalog numbering systems. This type is listed for 1754-57. It is not rare but rather expensive in nice condition.

Recorded mintage: 1,944,000 (including assayer IM).

Specification: 25.85 g, .802 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-1679; KM-C-19c.2; Bit-278.
