The first specimen was lot 21355 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Gold Poltina (1/2 Ruble), 1756. Elizabeth (1741-61). NGC MS-62." The second specimen was lot 3827 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $1,006.25. The catalog description[2] noted, "Russia. Poltina (½ Rouble), 1756. Elizabeth. Bust right. Reverse: Crowned initials. NGC graded AU-58." The poltina or half ruble was normally a silver coin but in 1756 gold ones were issued, an experiment not repeated. A very rare type.
