Sincona sale 93, lot 1070

This specimen was lot 1070 in Sincona sale 93 (Zürich, October 2024), where it sold for 60,000 CHF (about US$83,160 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND Kaiserreich und Föderation, Elizabeth, 1741-1761, 10 Roubles 1756, Red Mint, MMD. Sehr selten, Very rare. 80 roubles according to Petrov. 40 roubles according to Ilyin. Very rare. NGC AU58."

This rare type was struck at Moscow (MMД mintmark, shown here) and St. Petersburg 1756-58. Oddly, the accompanying five rubles has no mintmark.

Recorded mintage: 14,000.

Specification: 16.59 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 16.49 g.
