This specimen was lot 21483 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1757. Elizabeth I (1741-61). NGC MS-65 BN. Novodel. A beautiful Gem example of this RARE issue with a bold strike and few blemishes over surfaces that retain significant mint red despite the "Brown" coloration designation." Novodel is the Russian term for restrikes sold to collectors of the Tsarist era. Large quantities of one kopeks were struck 1757-61 for Elizabeth but are not mintmarked. Mintmarks were added to those struck for Catherine the Great 1763-96 (see KM C57.1 thru C57.5).
