Regensburg 1657-HF 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 3139 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €480 (about US$630 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. 1/6 Reichstaler 1657, mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von größter Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. (city of Regensburg, one-sixth thaler of 1657, struck in the name of Ferdinand III, Extremely rare, handsome patina, very fine.)"
This denomination, worth fifteen kreuzer or one quarter gulden, was struck only intermittently and most, like this one, are very rare. This type was struck 1653 and 1657.
