Künker sale 405, lot 3138

This specimen was lot 3138 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €700 (about US$919 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. 1/6 Reichstaler 1654 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1653 geändert), mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, one-sixth thaler of 1654, struck in the name of Ferdinand III, 1654/3 overdate. Extremely rare, fine patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This denomination, worth fifteen kreuzer or one quarter gulden, was struck only intermittently and most, like this one, are very rare. This type was struck 1654 and 1656.
