Regensburg 1653 ducat Fr-2472
This specimen was lot 3147 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,511 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. Dukat 1653, auf die böhmische Königskrönung Ferdinands IV. in Regensburg. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 62 (4842695-006). GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 331, Berlin 2020, Nr. 444. (city of Regensburg, ducat of 1653, on the coronation of Ferdinand IV as king of Bohemia. Graded NGC MS-62, extremely rare, extremely fine.)"
The city fathers also struck a half ducat (Fr-2473) and another ducat (KM 137/Fr-2474, wreath obverse/eagle reverse) on this occasion. Ferdinand IV died of smallpox a year after the ceremony, aged 20 years.
