Regensburg 1652 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 3137 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. 1/6 Reichstaler 1652, mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Siegmund Federer. Von allergrößter Seltenheit. Prachtexemplar. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (city of Regensburg, one-sixth thaler of 1652, struck in the name of Ferdinand III. Extremely rare, cabinet example, handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This denomination, worth fifteen kreuzer or one quarter gulden, was struck only intermittently and most, like this one, are very rare.
