Künker sale 336, lot 6599

This specimen was lot 6599 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €3,800 (about US$4,973 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REGENSBURG, STADT, Dukat 1652, mit Titel Ferdinands III. GOLD. Seltener Jahrgang. Attraktives Exemplar, kl. Randfehler, fast vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Regensburg, ducat of 1652, in the name of Ferdinand III. Rare date, attractive example, edge faults, about extremely fine.)"

This type is listed for 1638-52, 1656-57 yet despite the fourteen known dates (including 1643), it is rare. The south German free cities were ruined and depopulated by the Thirty Years War.
