Regensburg 1654-HF 1/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 3129 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €440 (about US$577 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. 1/3 Reichstaler 1654, mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von größter Seltenheit. Henkel- und Bearbeitungsspuren, sehr schön. (city of Regensburg, one-third thaler of 1654, struck in the name of Ferdinand III. Extremely rare, mount mark and tool marks, very fine.)"
This denomination, worth thirty kreuzer or one half gulden, was introduced in 1646 and struck only intermittently thereafter. Most, like this one, are rare. This type was struck 1654-57.
