Künker sale 405, lot 3118

This specimen was lot 3118 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €3,400 (about US$4,461 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS FERDINAND III. Reichstaler 1657 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1656 geändert), mit Titel Ferdinands III. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, fast vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, thaler of 1657, in the name of Ferdinand III, 1657/6 overdate. Extremely rare, handsome patina, about extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1656-57 only. The city of Regensburg issued a considerable variety of thalers after 1623 but all are rare.
