Regensburg 1658-HF thaler Dav-5767
This specimen was lot 3148 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €9,000 (about US$11,808 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. Reichstaler 1658. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Die gekreuzten Stadtschlüssel in verzierter Barockkartusche, darunter die Münzmeistersignatur//Gekrönter Doppeladler. Von großer Seltenheit. Attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, vorzüglich. Während des Interregnums geprägt, deshalb ohne Kaisername. (city of Regensburg, thaler of 1658. obverse: crossed city keys in a decorated baroque cartouche, including the mint master's signature; reverse: crowned double-headed eagle. Extremely rare, attractive example with handsome patina, extremely fine. Struck during the interregnum, hence no emperor's name.)"
This type was struck 1658 only. The city of Regensburg issued a considerable variety of thalers after 1623 but all are rare.
