Regensburg 1659-HF 1/6 thaler
This specimen was lot 3172 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €170 (about US$223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS LEOPOLDS I. 1/6 Reichstaler 1659, mit Titel Leopolds I. Münzmeister Hieronymus Federer. Von großer Seltenheit. Gestopftes Loch, sehr schön. (city of Regensburg, one-sixth thaler of 1659, struck in the name of Leopold I. Extremely rare, plugged, very fine.)"
This denomination, worth fifteen kreuzer or one quarter gulden, was struck only intermittently and most, like this one, are very rare. This type was struck 1659 and 1662-64.
