Künker sale 336, lot 6931

This specimen was lot 6931 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €360 (about US$471 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMAN COINS SINCE 1871, REICHSSILBERMÜNZEN, PREUSSEN. Wilhelm II. 1888-1918. 2 Mark 1901, A. 200 Jahre Königreich. Feine Patina, polierte Platte. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William II, 1888-1918, two mark of 1901, bicentennial of the kingdom. Fine patina, proof.)"

This commemorative was minted in enormous numbers and is one of the commonest silver coins of the Wilhelmine empire. It accompanied a five mark (Dav-790), also common. Regular two and five mark also appeared in 1901.

Recorded mintage: 2,600,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 11.11 g, 0.900 fine silver, 28 mm diameter.
