Sincona sale 9, lot 3998

This specimen was lot 3964 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$202 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Preussen, Königreich Münzstätten Berlin (A) Wilhelm II. 1888-1918. 5 Mark 1901. Kl. Kr. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William II, 1888-1918, five mark of 1901, Berlin mint, cleaned, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1891-1908. It superseded a similar type with a different reverse (Dav-788). It is scarcer than the commemorative of the same year (Dav-790).

Recorded mintage: 668,000 (a better date).

Specification: 27.77 g, 0.900 fine silver, 38 mm diameter.
