This specimen was lot 22728 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Reuss-Obergreiz. 2 Mark, 1901-A. Berlin Mint. NGC PROOF-64 CAMEO. Brilliant and highly reflective." This type, also struck 1899, is among the last issues from this state before the disaster of 1918. Reuss was one of the splinter states of Saxon Thuringia and itself underwent several divisions. Many rulers were named Heinrich and several lines consolidated their numbering, resulting in this prince becoming Heinrich the twenty-second.

Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus proofs.
