Künker sale 353, lot 3924

This specimen was lot 3924 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €50 (about US$70 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm II. 1786-1797. Ku.-Groschen 1797, B, Breslau. Prägung für Südpreußen. Mit BORUSS. Sehr schön. Erworben am 9.4.1969. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William II, 1786-97, copper groschen of 1797, Breslau mint, struck for South Prussia, with "BORUSS". Very fine.)"

This type was struck 1796-97 at Konigsberg and Breslau. Billon groschen also exist. South Prussia was the regime's name for the part of Poland seized in the second partition. Most of it was expropriated by Napoleon to form the Grand Duchy of Warsaw in 1807.
