Stack's Bowers September 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74635

This specimen was lot 74635 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. Taler, 1797-A. Berlin Mint. Friedrich Wilhelm II. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. A well-struck example with just light wear on the king's wig and coat lapels. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1791-97 at Berlin, Breslau and Konigsberg. Thalers were also struck for Frederick William IV in 1797 (Dav-2603) and we don't know if those are included in the mintage figure below. No premium is awarded this date.
