This specimen was lot 30659 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Prussia. Friedrich Wilhelm III gold Frederick d'Or 1797-A MS62 NGC, Berlin mint. Bust left. Light adjustment marks to the bust, otherwise produced to a high standard with considerable muted luster and minimal circulation handling. Were the fields less toned, this coin would surely have a Prooflike contrast. Very uncommon in this grade." This type, the first for Frederick William III, was struck 1797-98 only. It was superseded by Fr-2422, which is much more available.
