Künker sale 353, lot 3800

This specimen was part of lot 3800 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €180 (about US$251 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich II. der Große, 1740-1786. 6-Gröscher a) 6-Gröscher 1757 C, unbestimmte Münzstätte. Prägung während des Siebenjährigen Krieges. Mit FRIDERICVS BORVSSORVM REX in der Vorderseitenumschrift. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 15, Dortmund 2000, Nr. 464. ...Als Münzstätten für diese 6-Gröscher kommen Berlin, Cleve, Aurich, Magdeburg und Königsberg in Frage. 2 Stück., Sehr schön und vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick II the Great, 1740-86, six groscher of 1757, uncertain mint, struck during the Seven Years War, with "FRIDERICVS BORVSSORVM REX" in the obverse legend. This issue was struck at Berlin, Cleve, Aurich, Magdeburg and Königsberg. [One of] two pieces, extremely fine.)"

The SCWC divides the issue of 1757-C into KM A284, with "V's" in the obverse legend, and KM A283, with "U's" in the obverse legend. This was the last of the denomination struck for East Prussia before the province was occupied by the Russians during the Seven Years' War. Normal peacetime issues did not resume until 1763 and then only at Königsberg.
