This specimen was lot 32660 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 5 Reis, 1886. Lisbon Mint. Luis I. PCGS MS-64 Red Brown. KM-525. This charming near-Gem delivers good retained mint red, this charming example displays good eye catching brilliance." This type was struck in Lisbon 1882-86. King Luis ruled 1861-89 and in 1882 reduced the weight of the copper five, ten and twenty reis. Despite the substantial mintage, this is a scarce date.
