Künker sale 403, lot 1540

This specimen was lot 1540 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €22,000 (about US$28,866 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SEDISVAKANZ 1721. Die Münzstätte Rom. Scudo d’oro 1721, Rom. Verziertes Wappen des Cardinale Annibale Albani, darüber gekreuzte Schlüssel und Tiara//Die Taube des Heiligen Geistes in Strahlen mit Flammen, im Abschnitt MDCCXXI / • [drei Ringe übereinander] •. GOLD. RR Feine Goldtönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Papal States, sede vacante, gold scudo of 1721, Rome mint. Obverse: Ornate arms of Cardinale Annibale Albani, crossed keys and tiara above; reverse: the dove of the Holy Spirit in rays with flames, in the exergue MDCCXXI / • [three rings one above the other] •. Very rare, fine gold patina, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
