This mezzo grosso was struck during the reign of Innocent XIII (1721-24) to honor the Lateran basilica. Another, undated mezzo grosso was issued in 1721-24 (KM-777). The mezzo grosso was 2½ baiocchi or one fortieth of a scudo. Many varieties were issued in the 1720's.
