Papal States (1670-76) testone KM-343
This specimen was lot 1395 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,624 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PAPST CLEMENS X., 1670-1676. Die Münzstätte Rom. Testone o. J., Rom. Mit Wappen des Presidente della zecca, Monsieur Giovanni Battista Costaguti, auf der Rückseite. . Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit hübscher Patina, vorzüglich. (Papal States, Clement X, 1670-76, undated testone, Rome mint, with the arms of the mintmaster on the reverse. Very attractive example with handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
The reverse depicts the pope praying in front of his tiara. The reverse legend is taken from Psalm 16:15: "Ego autem in justitia apparebo conspectui tuo; satiabor cum apparuerit gloria tua." = "But as for me, I will appear before thy sight in justice: I shall be satisfied when thy glory shall appear."
