Nurnberg 1624 thaler Dav-5636
This specimen was lot 3427 in Fritz Rudolf Künker GmbH & Co. KG, eLive Auction 80 (Osnabrück, December 2023), where it sold for 210 euros (about US$272 including buyer's fees). The lot description noted, "GERMAN COINS AND MEDALS, NUREMBERG, STADT, Reichstaler 1624, mit Titel Ferdinands II. Kl. Zainende, winz. Kratzer, sehr schön (thaler of 1624, struck in the name of Ferdinand II. Minor clip, hairlines, very fine)." This thaler is listed for Nuremberg 1621-28 and is the most common thaler of the period for the city. Two mintmasters are noted, Hans Christoph Lauer (star) and Georg Nurmberger the elder (cross, shown here). The SCWC prices them the same.
