Mexico H3049-31205r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31205 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Maximilian 5 Centavos 1865-G MS64 NGC, Guanajuato mint. A beautiful specimen with subtle opalescence that gleams from beneath a light dappling of tone and strongly defined illustrations that captivate the eye. Currently tied with only one other example in this top certified designation." Altho this type was demonetized as soon as the Juaristas recaptured Mexico City, it is normally found quite worn, suggesting that it circulated for many years anyway.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, .039 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 385.
